Our Commitment to the Environment

When you buy an antique diamond ring, you know that the stones used in the piece were mined before the mining of conflict diamonds, the importance of which cannot be overstated. Often times the stones are over 100 years old, ensuring that their environmental and social impact were well before the time of conflict mining, which began in the 1970's and still continues today. We always urge customers to buy vintage because it requires no additional strain on the environment, as it utilizes existing stones rather than demanding new ones be mined. If you are concerned with making an eco-friendly choice for an engagement ring, choosing a vintage ring is simply your most green option!

The modern diamond market urges the consumer to think of a diamond as an investment, with an emphasis on buying a brand new stone to adorn an engagement ring. At Trumpet & Horn, we couldn't disagree more! We like to look at diamonds as more of a precious heirloom, to be treasured, loved, and then passed on to the next generation.

All of our newly-made, vintage-inspired engagement rings are created with recycled metals and antique accent stones, repurposed from broken vintage jewelry. Additionally, we use vintage diamonds and antique colored stones whenever possible. Our vintage-inspired pieces are all American made in downtown Los Angeles. We are committed to reducing waste and reutilizing perfectly good vintage metals, rich in value and history! To read more about jewelry we have repurposed in the past, check out our blog!

The colored gemstones that we source for our vintage-inspired or newly made pieces are all compliant with the strict American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) code of ethics. The AGTA is committed to responsibly sourcing colored gemstones with environmental and social responsibility in mind.

eco-friendly & Conflict-free

By choosing a vintage engagement ring, you are making an eco-friendly choice by putting no additional strain on the environment to create a ring for you. Additionally, buying vintage ensures that your ring utilizes conflict-free materials, as it was created well before the period of conflict mining arose.

Kimberly Process Compliancy

Trumpet & Horn supports The Kimberly Process, an international effort to track and certify diamonds from legitimate and conflict-free sources. Established by President Bush in 2003, the Kimberly process is an international initiative created to increase transparency and oversight in the diamond industry. The goal of the process is to eliminate trade conflict in diamonds sold by rebel groups and their allies. Conflict diamonds are defined by the United Nations as "...diamonds that originate from areas controlled by forces or factions opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and are used to fund military action in opposition to those governments, or in contravention of the decisions of the Security Council.” By doing business with Trumpet & Horn, you can rest assured that your new piece of jewelry is conflict free. To read more about the Kimberly Process, head on over to the U.S. State Department website.
