Jerry Heidenreich Trumpet & Horn Jerry Heidenreich Trumpet & Horn

“I love being a wholesale dealer. That is my gift. The magic for me is supplying our website with incredible inventory, which is what I do best, and our web & sales teams do what they do best - communicating with young women and men who want to find the perfect vintage or antique piece when they get engaged. It’s a true love story for me, and ultimately for them. That’s what makes my job fulfilling in every way.”

Jerome Heidenreich, Graduate Gemologist, has carried the weight of his humming estate jewelry wholesale business on his shoulders for over 30 years. With trade experience in the US and abroad, his desire to find unusual jewelry and large diamonds renders each and every day a new adventure. His vast knowledge and cleverness carries well beyond the jewelry trade, as he has lived in Europe and traveled the world seeking fine jewelry and rare vintage objects for his business and personal collections. In recent years, the interest in vintage and antique engagement rings has become increasingly more popular, inspiring modern, newly-made rings that are designed to look vintage. In 2011, Jerry and his wife, Kim, decided they wanted to try selling authentic antique rings online, and scarcely a year later, Trumpet & Horn was born. In December 2012, Jerry officially launched the Trumpet & Horn website, offering couples a new place to view and try a huge variety of unique, antique engagement rings. When he’s not at the office, Jerry can usually be found gardening, walking on the beach with his energetic vizsla, Rocket, or out on the town with Kim and his son, Ben, exploring all the diverse food choices to enjoy in LA. Originally from a Minneapolis suburb, Jerry is still true to his Minnesotan roots in more ways than one: he loves snowboarding, the Minnesota State Fair, Chinese food from a can, and A1 steak sauce.

“It never dawned on me while we were dating that our careers could meld this way. Jerry truly has the most lovely products, and my passion for marketing, branding, and sales was the perfect way to make this idea work. It’s far and away the most rewarding and fulfilling job we have ever had. It was indeed born completely from love.”

Affectionately known as “Kimberly Sue” by all who know her, Kim Heidenreich is Jerry’s right hand girl and one-half of Trumpet & Horn’s very first couple. Growing up in beautiful San Diego with dreams of going to college and becoming a “real business woman” one day (complete with a power-suit and pearls!), it’s no surprise Kim became a 17 year veteran of the ad sales business after graduating with a degree in Communications from CU Boulder. Day-to-day, Kim helps keep the T&H train running with her knowledge of media, public relations, and advertising. Jerry and Kim met in 2009, falling in love on one of their first dates overlooking the beautiful cliffs in Palo Verdes, CA. Kim says that Jerry absolutely swept her off her feet that day, and two and a half years later, they were married in the exact same spot. Shortly after their big day, Jerry approached Kim about the idea to sell some of his antique and vintage engagement rings online. Impressed with his idea, Kim knew exactly what steps needed to be taken to move forward to get T&H off the ground, and within a week, Kim and Jerry were meeting with a web & packaging design studio. Six months later, the website was launched and took off running before Kim and Jerry knew what hit them. Together, their goal for Trumpet & Horn is to provide their audience of vintage jewelry enthusiasts a place to find great, one-of-a-kind engagement rings and fine jewelry. In the T&H office, Kim is known as the queen of old-school terms; making everyone chuckle when she announces “there’s a gentleman caller on line 1!” When she’s not answering sales calls, Kim can usually be found force-feeding vegetables to her loved ones from Minnesota, getting her butt kicked at spin class, planning vacations with her best friends, or jetting off for the weekend with Jerry, Ben, and their zany dog, Rocket.

"Joining Jerry in business was the smartest career decision I have ever made. We're exactly the same and completely different - we can predict each other’s thoughts without exchanging a sentence. That's why it works and that's why we're so efficient. Jerry has a gift when it comes to jewelry, and I try and make sure I deliver the same level of excellence to each and every customer that calls, e-mails, or walks through our door. We love working together because we're doing what we love, and in my opinion, that's just a perfect day any day.”

Tom Heidenreich, Jerry’s identical twin brother and an Accredited Jewelry Professional, has worked in the estate jewelry business for the past 20 years. After graduating with a BS in Business from The American University in Washington D.C., Tom decided that working on “the hill” was not his draw, moving seamlessly into the estate jewelry business and discovering his passion for sales and managing jewelry stores. Never one to rest on his laurels, Tom decided to open up his own vintage watch store in 2004, until he and Jerry decided that their individual strengths in the jewelry business were better when joined together. After climbing aboard the wholesale jewelry train with Jerry in 2007, the dynamic duo have made a day’s work look effortless - impressing clients with jokes, tall tales, and tons of laughter while the phones are ringing, printers are humming, and clients continue to pour in. Today, Tom uses his warm enthusiasm, wild sense of humor, and ability to make anyone feel right at home assisting Kim to make sure every single client feels welcomed into the T&H family as the Director of Sales. Once the office closes for the day, Tom makes the long trek back to the mountains of Tujunga and his wonderful husband, Mario. This perfect pair met while training for the San Francisco marathon in 2008, and have been inseparable ever since. Together, the pair adopted their adorable son, Mikey, in 2009, and were finally able to marry in a stunning backyard ceremony (complete with 15 chandeliers and traditional Mexican wedding attire!) in 2014. On the weekends, Tom (lovingly known to most as “Tommy”) can be found shopping for interesting finds at flea markets & thrift stores, watching Mikey play in little league, and driving his bright red monster truck.

Kelly Johnson Trumpet & Horn Kelly Johnson Trumpet & Horn

“Although my personal style errs on the more unusual side of the spectrum, I love that we have a little something for everyone. Whether you love simple solitaires, geometric Art Deco rings, or ornate Victorian rings that are more than a little eye-catching, our rings are meant to speak to every woman in a way that expresses her own personal style. If every couple out there is completely unique and one-of-a-kind… shouldn’t engagement rings be, too?"

Trumpet & Horn’s in-house photographer and Director of Marketing, Kelly Johnson, joined the T&H team in 2013 with no experience in the jewelry industry, but a whole lot of enthusiasm! A graduate of the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business with a degree in Marketing and minor in Art, Kelly can usually be found clicking away in her photography studio, creating new graphics for the website, Instagramming the latest jewels, or sorting through dozens of e-mails from the amazing photographers & stylists who borrow T&H rings for photo shoots. If there are tasks to be done that require a spreadsheet or being remotely creative, Kelly will snap it up like a turtle and clack away on her computer until the task is complete. In 2011, Kelly started her career in Los Angeles learning the basics of content management, blogging, and web design while honing her skills in marketing and branding for three years before making her way to T&H full time. As a fellow Minnesotan (Jerry & Tom are also originally from the land of 10,000 lakes), Kelly has a love for going to the beach in January, making jokes about “hot dish”, and reminding everyone that “Minnesota Nice” is a real thing. Outside of the office, she enjoys reading, anything involving psychology, and playing kickball on the weekends. Even though Kelly currently wears her vintage rings only on her right hand, knowing that her role at T&H has the end goal of enriching the lives of others fuels her creativity and always keeps a huge smile permanently on her face.

“I love antique jewelry because every ring, every brooch tells a story from the past. I hold a piece of jewelry in my hand and wonder who might have been wearing it and what was happening in her life at the time. I see a pair of platinum topped gold and diamond cluster earrings from the late 1800’s, and wonder: was she in France? Had she ever ridden in a car? Or a 14k rose gold bracelet topped with a cabochon citrine from the 1940’s: most likely from the United States - was her husband at war? Was she lonely? Did she listen the the radio at night while wearing it? Antique jewelry makes history so incredibly real for me; like I am instantly transported back to another time and place.”

Eliza Burns Ehrlinger, Graduate Gemologist, got her start in the jewelry business as a teenager, jumping on the train from Connecticut every chance she got to act as her sister’s viewing assistant at Christie’s Auction House in New York City. Her passion for antique jewelry only grew from there, spending her summers off from Occidental College interning at major jewelry auction houses including Sotheby’s in New York, Bonham’s and Butterfields in Los Angeles, and Bonham’s in London. After graduating with a BA in Art History, Eliza moved to New York City to attend the Gemological Institute of America, ultimately receiving her Graduate Gemologist degree and joining one of the biggest names in antique and estate jewelry, Camilla Dietz Bergeron, LTD, shortly thereafter. After two years, Eliza realized it was time to join forces with her sister once again; moving to Los Angeles to start their jewelry business together. For five years, Eliza grew their engagement ring & vintage watch business and worked freelance for several international jewelry companies as a jewelry specialist for insurance and estate tax appraisals (she has a Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) certification as well). In 2013, Eliza made her way over to work for longtime industry friend, Jerry, and has been happy as a Connecticut clam ever since. When she isn’t buying and selling vintage jewelry, Eliza can usually be found playing tennis, eating pickles straight out of the jar, or chasing around her golden retriever (named Asscher, after her favorite diamond cut). Although she grew up in Connecticut, Eliza was born in Australia and lived in Toronto before moving to the East Coast with her family at the age of 6. During high school, she made friends with a Connecticut native and fellow clambake catering company employee, Charlie, whom Eliza would later marry in 2013 after losing touch with him for several years after graduation. He proposed on a wildly romantic trip to France in 2012, and they now live in a sweet little house with Asscher in LA’s Eagle Rock neighborhood.

Hannah Marlin Trumpet & Horn Hannah Marlin Trumpet & Horn

“I love this job because I’m constantly getting to try new things just to see if they work. Although this isn’t the first time I’ve managed website content, it’s the first time I’ve had total control over what I’m able to do and am constantly challenged to learn more. Kelly and I make an excellent team because we’re both insanely organized but have totally opposite interests in which parts of the brand we want to work on. Trying on diamond rings all day really isn’t horrible either.”

Hannah Marlin, the newest member of the T&H team and only Los Angeles native, keeps the website running and T&H team functioning as the website/content manager and un-official tech guru. After graduating from UCLA in 2011 with a BA in English, Hannah decided to try out the colder Midwestern weather for a few years working in the Dean’s Office at Northwestern University. After deciding that snow is not one of her interests, Hannah found her way back to sunny LA in 2013, trying her hand at agency life working as a content manager in Santa Monica. In late 2014, Hannah was swept away into the world of jewelry when her friend Kelly exasperatedly complained if only she knew someone technically inclined with perfect writing skills who could manage the T&H website. Now at Trumpet & Horn, Hannah makes sure there are new rings for everyone to see on Tuesday mornings, oversees the management of website development projects, writes our blog, and ensures that the website hasn’t unexpectedly crashed overnight. At work she can usually be found zooming around the back-end of the website, solving technical problems, and shooting witty zingers from across the room that typically result in uproars of laughter. Hannah's favorite part of her job is making those super cute T&H Couples love stories, and it'd be a real challenge for her to get through one without sobbing "It's just so sweet!!!" into her keyboard. After work, Hannah enjoys a number of leisure activities, such as cross-stitch, macrame, and crossword puzzles. Hannah is also a fervent lover of the great outdoors and is always meticulously planning her next big camping trip, right down to the latest & greatest campfire story.
